The leader of ERP systems – Microsoft Dynamics 365

The leader of ERP systems. This title was awarded to Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 solution in 2021. The title was awarded as part of the annual Nucleus Research ERP Value Matrix technology competition. Analysts researched the entire ERP vendor market. They also considered new players on the market. All vendors have been extensively researched and assessed for functionality and usability. And then divided into 4 categories. With its complete Dynamics 365 offering, Microsoft achieved the best results of any competing vendor. Thanks to this, this year he can be considered a “leader among leaders”.

In today’s markets, there is a plethora of choices if you are looking for a new ERP solution. So  where should you start your research? After all, adding all options to your longlist will create an unworkable situation. This is where analyst research like that of Nucleus Research comes in handy.

Market overview provided by analysts from Nucleus Research

The leader of ERP systems - Microsoft Dynamics 365

“Despite the disruption wrought by last year’s pandemic, we saw increased demand for ERP solutions across all industries, especially among mid-market companies. With work forces transitioning to work-from-home and hybrid set-ups, the pains of on-premises solutions, disjointed systems or manual processes now outweigh the costs of an ERP cloud migration for many businesses. ERP vendors are turning to a Platform-as-a-Service delivery model, where customers can build their own applications on top of a microservices layer for core capabilities including analytics, chatbots, data management, and API management tools. AI and IoT capabilities are table stakes at this point. And vendors compete on the extensibility of their platforms via no-code customization and application development.”

The leader of ERP systems – unique offers from Microsoft 365

According to Nucleus Research, Microsoft has two unique offerings: Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management. Thanks to this, it can be recognized as the leader of ERP systems.

The leader of ERP systems - Microsoft Dynamics 365

This is what the report says about Microsoft Dynamics 365:
“Microsoft leverages a customer feedback model that allows the vendor to continue its customer-first approach through numerous community channels and user studies. Updates throughout the year have centered on improvements to core functionalities and IT compatibility. The simplifying of dimension editing for tasks such as general ledger entries was initiated in response to past difficulties in correcting errors inputted by users. At-home employees were among the most to benefit, as the update allowed for rapid remediation without the need for IT personnel. The vendor continued efforts towards a user-friendly approach by enabling personalized app integration through improved VS Code and extension lifecycle telemetry for ISVs as part of the app submitting process onto the AppSource platform.”

Microsoft’s massive investment in research and development, continuous updates to improve core functionality, flexible expandability via app, fast and affordable cloud deployment, and ease of adaptation based on the NoCode approach, chatbots and innovative features such as artificial intelligence and IoT make Dynamics 365 Business Central an ideal solution for medium-sized companies that are already prepared for the future today. It is simply the leader of ERP systems for the SME sector.

In addition, with the Microsoft partner ecosystem and AppSource, Dynamics 365 customers have access to a unique offering across the entire business and technology stack.

It is therefore highly recommended making a position on your shortlist for Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Microsoft is seeing another growth thanks to the cloud

Microsoft cloud strength fuels third quarter financial results

Microsoft Corp. recently announced its results for the quarter ended March 31, 2021 with revenue of $ 41.7 billion (up 19% compared to the same period last year), operating income of $ 17.0 billion (up 31%) and earnings per share of $ 2.03 (up 45%). Net income rose 45% compared to the same quarter last year, reaching $ 15.5 billion. These results out-perform the analyst expectations.

Cloud revenue, up 33% year over year

Microsoft is seeing another growth thanks to the cloud

“The Microsoft Cloud, with its end-to-end solutions, continues to provide compelling value to our customers generating $17.7 billion in commercial cloud revenue, up 33% year over year,” said Amy Hood, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Microsoft. With this continuous growth, Microsoft’s cloud business remains larger than the combined cloud businesses of Google and Amazon.

Unlike other vendors, Microsoft and her Dynamics 365 partner channel seem to be little affected by the crisis. The revenue from the Dynamics ERP and CRM products and cloud services increased 26%, mostly driven by Dynamics 365 cloud revenue growth of 45%. This growth is about three times faster than the average market growth for ERP and CRM solutions.

Constant growth of Microsoft

This sustained growth enables Microsoft to continue her investments in the field of Research and Development, personnel growth and continuous innovation. Speeding up its mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. This is an important message to all current and future Dynamics 365 customers since their digital transformation journeys have often just begun and only seem to accelerate further.

“Over a year into the pandemic, digital adoption curves aren’t slowing down. They’re accelerating, and it’s just the beginning,” said Satya Nadella, chief executive officer of Microsoft. “We are building the cloud for the next decade, expanding our addressable market and innovating across every layer of the tech stack to help our customers be resilient and transform.”

Innovative future with Microsoft

The ongoing strong results confirm the confident that the Microsoft Dynamics 365 implementation partners and their customers have in an ongoing innovative future. And as a Dynamics 365 partner, we love to repeat this mantra: “a strategic choice for a Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions is a choice for a stream of innovation that will never stop”.

The path to the leader of new technologies and digitization

The path to the leader of new technologies and digitization. Learn Microsoft’s history

The latest crisis has shown the importance of the level and quality of IT solutions in companies. It affects the resilience of the company, the reliability of processes and the introduction of necessary changes and the chances of survival on the market. The quality of these solutions is often associated with cooperation with strategic solution vendors. Is the vendor you work with able to survive the crisis on its own? And is their financial situation stable enough that they can continue to invest heavily in continual innovation of their products and services? These are actually worth asking when choosing an IT solution vendor. So let’s see how Microsoft questions is doing.

Rome was not built in a day. The history of Microsoft’s troubles.

The path to the leader of new technologies and digitization. Learn Microsoft's history

In 2013, Microsoft was perceived as an outdated and old-fashioned IT solutions vendor. It still had a strong presence and a large customer base. But it was fairly slow in responding to market needs. Moreover, at that time, despite large investments in research and development, Microsoft had problems with creating innovative products and services.

Microsoft is in full swing

In 2014, however, everything changed. And it was radically. Satyia Nadella was nominated as CEO of Microsoft companies. First of all, he introduced a new strategy “Cloud First, Mobility First”, which was quite progressive and innovative at the time. However, Nadella also changed Microsoft’s organizational culture. From a “know-it-all” approach at Microsoft, he moved to a “learning-everything” culture. Nadella’s management made the bottlenecks in the company disappear and cooperation between departments improved significantly. Thanks to Nadella, a large-scale growth focus was established at Microsoft.

It didn’t take long for the results of the changes and new strategies to appear. Thanks to focusing on cloud solutions, Microsoft has recorded a huge increase in cloud solutions. Additionally, it has signed contracts with its competitors such as SAP, Salesforce and Apple. Many powerful “single category products” have gradually become part of an attractive, intelligent cloud platform.

From zero to hero

Revenues and profits grew spectacularly, turning shareholders into happy investors. In the 7 years since Nadella took over as CEO, Microsoft’s market capitalization has grown from $ 300 billion to $ 1.9 trillion. That’s 6 times more in just 7 years. This is undoubtedly an unprecedented achievement!

Today, Microsoft is a true leader in digital transformation. Microsoft aims to empower every person and business on earth to achieve more. And that’s exactly what Microsoft does. The company is still the undisputed industry leader when it comes to investing in research and development. But Microsoft also has the courage to act fast when it comes to acquiring valuable pieces of technology. Strong innovations are being brought to market at a rapid pace, strengthening Microsoft’s powerful intelligent cloud platform.

Microsoft is not slowing down

One of the latest example of product development is the launch of Microsoft Viva, an integrated employee solution. Another example is the nearly $ 20 billion acquisition of Nuance Healthcare, the artificial speech technology company, the second largest acquisition in the company’s history.

Microsoft is ready to help your business make the most of its digital transformation and grow in the years to come. If you want to take advantage of Microsoft’s experience and products, get to know them better or arrange a consultation with an IT Vision specialist.

The fastest growing ERP in the cloud – Dynamics 365 Business Central

Dynamics 365 Business Central is growing at the speed of light. Microsoft’s cloud-based ERP system for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) recently surpassed the 15,000-customer mark. The growth of new customers for this solution is 1,000 new companies each month that decide to start working with Business Central. System is growing not only in terms of the number of new customers. The number of system users also increased by 200%. These numbers prove that most likely Dynamics 365 Business Central is the fastest growing ERP in the cloud in the world.

The fastest growing ERP in the cloud – huge number of customers

The fastest growing ERP in the cloud

The SaaS platform for Dynamics 365 Business Central is currently used by over 15,000 companies around the world. In addition, the number of system users increases by 200% each year. The data was presented by Microsoft’s general manager Mike Morton at the DIRECTIONS North-America meeting for Dynamics NAV and Business Central. In November 2020, Morton announced that Business Central exceeded its 10,000-customer milestone.

This data means that in just 5 months as many as 5,000 companies decided to implement Business Central. That’s 1,000 new Microsoft customers a month. This is truly a stunning growth rate! In the previous year, the monthly increase was only 5,000 new Business Central customers.

The number of Business Central users is growing every month

Not only the growth rate of new customers is impressive. The increase in the number of new Business Central users is also remarkable. As Mike Morton said, it results from many variables. First of all, companies grow and add new users. Moreover, new implementations of Business Central SaaS significantly increased the average number of users per system startup. Of course, as in previous years, many companies implement the system for 5 or 10 users. However, there is a growing number of companies which, by implementing the Business Central system, add 500 or more users to the system.

The pace of user growth even exceeds the growth in new customers. This is for several different reasons that Morton explained. One explanation is that existing customers add users over time. However, Microsoft is now also seeing larger Business Central SaaS deals, with a “significantly increasing” average number of users per deployment, adds Morton. While some new customers are still deploying five to ten seats, as most companies do in the product’s early years of use, Microsoft is also adding up to 500 new seats or more to customers.

Business Central SaaS is a source of good business decisions

Companies decide to use Business Central SaaS because they know that it can be the source of countless everyday small operational decisions as well as important strategic decisions. Many of them also use this solution as the basis for digital transformation processes.

The fastest growing ERP in the cloud – the best ERP for the SME

The fastest growing ERP in the cloud

Microsoft has a clear goal for the near future. The company devotes a lot of its activities and commitment to make Business Central “the world’s best ERP solution for small and medium-sized enterprises”. One of the areas that the development department focuses on is streamlining implementation – the “implementation process” as understood by Microsoft. The goal is to create both an easier, faster and cheaper implementation process.

This improved implementation process, coupled with the rapidly growing number of implementation partners and the ever-growing number of available applications, is likely to see Microsoft continue to see customer and user growth in the near future.

Data security – cloud vs. on premise

Data security is one of the key factors in choosing between cloud solution and on-premise. The conducted observations show that local installation of the system is often perceived as a safer solution. Very often, the feeling of data closeness and full control makes us perceive on-premise as a safer system. However, is this approach appropriate? What does data security really look like in both types of installations? Where is ERP data most secure – in your own data center or in the public cloud?

Data security is becoming increasingly important

Data security – cloud vs. on premise

Data security is becoming increasingly important. This is a very good trend. There are more and more entities that care about access, control and even data theft. In today’s highly competitive markets, companies are forced to be extremely cautious with data for several reasons.

Data security – where is the safest?

Here are the 5 main areas to consider when comparing data security in the cloud and in a locally installed ERP.

Where is the most valuable data safe? Consider this question by focusing on the on-premise situation.

Professionalism

The first topic to consider is the level of professionalism needed to secure your data. Hackers are rapidly becoming more sophisticated. Therefore, your security level must also be constantly increasing. Ideally, you should always stay ahead of a potential threat. At least one step ahead. Therefore, you should take into account the level of professionalism of IT employees, their experienced, security approach, budget size and the ability to fill vacancies.

Knowledge level

The second issue is the depth and level of knowledge of you and your employees. How much does the IT team know? When was the last time a new way of looking at security appeared in your company thanks to a new employee? What is your budget for training and inspiring employees? Is the current level of staff and knowledge sufficient to keep pace with the changes? Also consider what has been the trend for security budgets in recent years?

Knowledge and experience

The third topic is knowledge and experience. To what extent are you able to cover all the applications, databases, operating systems and reporting tools your company currently uses? Are you satisfied with the answer?

Data security – cloud vs. on premise

Server’s access

The fourth topic is physical access to servers. Do you really control access to the server room very carefully? Do you know exactly what employees and external suppliers are doing in this room? It is also worth remembering about additional staff, such as a cleaning company, which has access to the server room after hours.

Audits

Finally, it is worth discussing the issue of audits. How often do you perform a professional EDP audit? Carried out by an external company that will pinpoint where the weaknesses are in your security strategy. An additional question is this – are you implementing all the recommendations of the auditing company?

A rough estimate shows that 40 percent of all companies using on-premise solutions do not back up their data daily. Is this shocking news for you? Are you sure your business belongs to the remaining 60 percent?

Data security is crucial

Let’s face it. In today’s world, data security is crucial. You need to run the business and focus on customers, employees and the expected results. And data security is not your core business.

In 2020, Microsoft won the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure contract awarded by the Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Armed Forces. This is probably the organization that values credibility the most of all in the world. And he has the most to lose! This deal has the potential to remove the nervousness of many companies about cloud security. Microsoft employs 3,500 cybersecurity engineers and invests $ 1 billion annually in cybersecurity.

It goes without saying that security in Microsoft data centers is much better than in the server room and IT staff of an average company in the SME sector. Does this also apply to your business?

International offering – vendor’s offer

Why it is important to select a ERP vendor with an international offering

Until about thirty years ago you really had to be a large corporation to be active across borders. And to call yourself a ‘multi-national’. But since the introduction of the internet this has changed dramatically. In today’s world, medium-sized and even small companies can sell and deliver their products and services all over the world. That has of course an impact on the scope and the deployability of their IT systems. That’s why it’s important when selecting a new ERP solution to always check if potential vendor has an international offering.

International offering

Although our world is rapidly globalized over the last 2 decades, the differences between countries are still impressively large. And that is not limited to obvious aspects like language and currencies! Almost every single country has particularities in accounting, tax rules and specific reporting. And on top of that there are always the well-known differences in culture.

The impact of these differences on international implementations are drastic. If you want to use a global ERP solution that is not localized for all your countries, you run the risk of not being compliant. Alternatively, using different local solutions for every country will result in a loss of overview, a complex organization and much higher cost.

It’s better not to fall into the trap of starting with a local vendor in your home country. And immediately run into problems on the first step across borders. Unfortunately, however, many companies have had to learn this important lesson the hard way.

International offering from Microsoft

Microsoft has an attractive international offering for its Dynamics 365 solutions, including:

  • Localized versions for its Dynamics 365 solutions for 49 countries around the world. (49 countries from April 2021). Localized means the local language, the local currency and the local laws and regulations – all on an ongoing basis;
  • The availability of local implementation partners in all these countries who know the localized version inside-out, speak the local language and understand the local culture
  • Access to a local helpdesk that delivers support in local language and in the local time-zone

As you can imagine, these are all aspects that will improve the quality of your implementation and international roll-outs.

Finally.

You might run a local operation today. And you might think that this message is meant for someone else. But for a minute, just consider where the future growth of your company is. In the next 3, 5 or maybe even 10 years from now. No idea right?

So when you’re selecting a new ERP solution, why should you limit yourself in advance?

The best ERP system for the SME sector

Microsoft wants Dynamics 365 Business Central to be the world’s best ERP system for companies from the SME sector. This is a goal that Microsoft has set for itself recently. It results from the recent transition of solutions to the cloud and the creation of the Dynamics 365 platform. Microsoft took time to set a goal appropriate to the expectations of the rapidly growing market of ERP and CRM solutions for the SME sector.

Microsoft has been operating on the ERP solutions market since 2001. The company made its debut on it by taking over the American company Great Plains. A year later, it also acquired the Danish company Navision Software. Thanks to these activities, it offered 4 different ERP systems, some of the functionalities overlapping with each other. In later years, the company focused on its two most successful solutions:

  • Dynamics NAV (Navision) – for the small and medium-sized companies’ market
  • Dynamics AX – for the corporate account market

Because the integration of systems and solutions is the biggest IT challenge for small and large companies, Microsoft decided a few years ago to change its strategy. The company focused on a true platform approach, rather than investing in loosely coupled solutions. An important step was the decision to transform its flagship, most successful on-premise solution for the SME market, Dynamics NAV (Navision). Dynamics NAV has become the core of Microsoft’s intelligent platform strategy for the small and medium-sized enterprise market. The cloud-based ERP solution created on its basis was named Dynamics 365 Business Central.

The best ERP system for companies from the SME sector – Microsoft is ambitious!

At the end of 2020, Microsoft clearly defined its goal for the near future. Mike Morton, CEO of Microsoft’s D365 Business Central at Directions 2020, said he wants Dynamics 365 Business Central to become “the world’s best ERP solution for SMBs.”

One of the areas that the company improves to achieve this goal is streamlining the implementation process. It should be easier, faster and cheaper. All these aspects are important for companies from the SME sector!

Microsoft is a company with an established position on the market. It has the necessary financial background and R&D capacity to develop excellent solutions. In addition, it has marketing machinery and wide international distribution channels to market, sell and implement Business Central on a large scale. Recent history shows many examples of where Microsoft found real success as soon as it entered the game.

In conclusion: small and medium-sized enterprises that want to modernize their solutions and are looking for the best ERP system for companies in the SME sector, make the right decision if they seriously consider Dynamics 365 Business Central!

An impressive 250 percent growth for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

At the recent DIRECTIONS4PARTNERS event for all Microsoft Dynamics 365 partners in Europe, Middle East and Africa region, Microsoft published data regarding the performance of her new cloud ERP solution for small and medium business, Dynamics 365 Business Central. And there was all reason for happy faces! The number of organisations using Business Central grow with 250 percent compared to the same moment last year. An impressive result that gives all parties involved confidence for a prosperous future.

At last year’s DIRECTIONS event in Vienna, Microsoft reported over 4.000 customer organisations around the world who implemented Dynamics 365 Business Central. A great number considering that all the traditional Dynamics NAV partners had to prepare themselves to become ‘market ready’ for the cloud. Just think about training their staff and migrating their add-on solutions to the new and modernized development environment.

Microsoft announced an accelerated growth

This year, Microsoft general manager for D365 Business Central Mike Morton announced an accelerated growth to 10.000+ customers. So that is a growth of 6.000 new customers in total with an average of 500 new customers per month! All these organisations trust on Business Central SaaS to be their source for taking countless small day-to-day operational decisions as well as their important strategical decisions. Many of them also use the solution as the backbone of their digital transformation processes.

Microsoft did not only report a growth in the number of customers. The number of transacting Dynamics 365 BC partners also had a phenomenal growth. That number went up from 750 a year ago to 2.200 partner organisations today covering over 100 countries worldwide. This number is expected to keep growing since there are still many traditional Dynamics NAV partners on their way to this new product and the cloud. A tangible result of that is a growing number of certified D365 BC apps on AppSource – Microsoft’s global app store for Business Central. Today there are more than 1.000 of these apps certified, published and available for use.

Meet some interesting insights

Morton shared some more interesting insights with the partner community. While the focus of Dynamics 365 Business Central continues to be organisations with 10 to 250 employees, the largest BC customer today counts over 1.000 named users where the smallest customers have less than 5 named users. Most of the customers have between 20 and 40 named users.

Clear goal for the near future

Microsoft has a clear goal for the near future. The company is committed to make Business Central “the world’s best ERP solution for small and medium businesses”. One of the focus areas for the development department is to streamline the implementation – the ‘onboarding process’ in Microsoft terms. The goal is to make the onboarding process both easier, faster and cheaper.

The improved onboarding process combined with the fast-growing number of reselling partners and the growing number of available apps holds great expectations for a further rapid growth in the near future.

Microsoft cloud strength fuels first quarter financial results

Microsoft Corp. announced its results for the quarter ended September 20, 2020 with revenue of $ 37.2 billion. (Up 12% compared to the same period last year), operating income of $ 15.0 billion (up 25%). And earnings per share of $ 1.82 (up 32%). All results out-performing analyst expectations. Net income rose 30% compared to the same quarter last year, reaching $ 13.9 billion.

Azure revenue grew 48%, while cloud services and server products increased 22% overall. In the previous quarter, Azure revenue grew 47% on 17% growth overall in that segment.

Revenue from the Dynamics ERP

Despite COVID-19, the revenue from the Dynamics ERP and CRM products and cloud services increased 19%. Mostly driven by Dynamics 365 cloud revenue growth of 38%. While the revenue for the broader Productivity and Business Processes segment was $ 12.3 billion and increased 11%. Last quarter, Dynamics revenue overall increased 13%, with Dynamics 365 revenue growth of 38%.

This fast and unparalleled ongoing growth in business applications confirms the trust that the market has in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions, in Microsoft’s intelligent cloud platform as in the overall Microsoft vision.

Strong financial results

“Demand for our cloud offerings drove a strong start to the fiscal year with our commercial cloud revenue generating $ 15.2 billion, up 31% year over year,” said Amy Hood, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Microsoft. “We continue to invest against the significant opportunity ahead of us to drive long-term growth.”

These strong financial results combined with the positive outlook for the coming years will enable Microsoft to continue investments in the field of Research and Development. Therefore, the company can speed up its mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.

Stream of innovation that never stops

“The next decade of economic performance for every business will be defined by the speed of their digital transformation,” said Satya Nadella, chief executive officer of Microsoft. “We are innovating across our full modern tech stack to help our customers in every industry improve time to value, increase agility and reduce costs.”

For the Microsoft implementation partners and their current and potential customers, these ongoing strong results confirm the confident they have in a stable and innovative future. A strategic choice for Microsoft’s business solutions is a choice for a stream of innovation that never stops.

Management systems in remote work

The world has always been changing. This year, however, the changes were more dynamic and unexpected than ever before. Especially those regarding the style and mode of working. Remote work, however, is not only about transferring employees from offices to their homes.

Changing the style of work brings with it many challenges related to data security, the possibility of remote access to all systems and easy communication between employees, customers and partners.

Management systems in remote work

Management systems can support this remote work. But they providers also had to find the right solutions almost overnight. Microsoft also supports its users in switching to remote work. Sylwia Wójcik says more about Microsoft’s support in the following interview.

Remote work and the current approach of system providers encourage companies to use cloud solutions. However, cloud-based solutions have some limitations. Piotr Podgórni talks more about those and the future of on-premise solutions.
